Directed by Sudha Kongara Prasad, the film is based on the life of Air Deccan founder G.R Gopinath. The filmmakers have decided to keep the film's promotions in line with the theme of the movie. According to Suriya's production house, 100 school kids will fly with Suriya for half-an-hour and during the journey, the new single, 'Veyyon Silli', will be released on-board the aircraft. Recently, the team of Soorarai Pottru unveiled the theme music titled 'Maara'.
Suriya, who is also a philanthropist, chose these 100 children based on their essays about their fondest dreams and desires. They are first-time flyers and come from different economic backgrounds.
Soorarai Pottru is also releasing in Telugu as Aakasam Nee Haddu Raa in April 2020. If the film is a hit then it will help Suriya make a comeback. His last few films in Tamil and Telugu have failed to rake in profits at the box-office. Soorarai Pottru also features Telugu superstar Mohan Babu in a pivotal role along with Aparna Balamurali and Paresh Rawal. The music score is by G.V Prakash, who is in excellent form post the release of Dhanush's Asuran in 2019.
