Tamil Nadu closes borders with AP, hundreds of vehicles stranded on national highway
By Newsmeter Network Published on 21 March 2020 9:05 AM GMTNellore: Tamil Nadu has closed its borders with Andhra Pradesh from Friday midnight as a part of precautionary measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The check post at Tada on the Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu (TN) has been shut from the wee hours on Saturday. . The check post is manned by the TN government. TN police are not allowing the movement of vehicles. A huge number of vehicles are stranded on the national highway waiting to enter into Tamil Nadu.
Tamil Nadu has also closed borders with Kerala and Karnataka to prevent the spread of the virus.
Tamil Nadu government has taken the extreme step 36 hours before Janta Curfew. The main highway connecting Andhra Pradesh with Karnataka and Kerala is blocked. Interstate transport between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka has also come to a halt.
Coronavirus cases in India have been rising steadily. The number of COVID positive cases has touched 236, according to the Ministry of Health. They include 191 Indians and 32 foreigners. Kerala has recorded 14 and Karnataka 15 cases.
