TDP leader Kuna Ravi Kumar threatens Ponduru tahsildar for illegal soil mining

Srikakulam: The Srikakulam police registered a case against former government whip and TDP leader Kuna Ravi Kumar for abusing and threatening Ponduru tahsildar Tamarapalli Ramakrishna of dire consequences. The police are also readying to arrest the TDP leader.

Based on information from the Village Revenue Officer on illegal soil mining in Ramasagaram tank, tahsildar Ramakrishna and his team visited the spot and seized the vehicles, including those in soil excavation and other machinery, belonging to Ravi Kumar’s brother for indulging in illegal digging of soil from a tank at Gorinta village on May 16.

Angry over seizure of the vehicles belonging to his brother, TDP leader Ravi Kumar called up the tahsildar and abused him. Ravi Kumar also asked him to release the vehicles immediately or else, he threatened that he would lodge a complaint against him citing that he demanded bribe for the release of the vehicles.

When the tahsildar said that nothing was in his hands, Ravi Kumar further abused him and asked him how much bribe he needed.

The phone conversation between Ravi Kumar and the tahsildar surfaced a few days ago. Based on a complaint from tahsildar Ramakrishna, the police registered a case against Ravi Kumar under Sections 353 and 506 R/W 34 of IPC. Though the police went to Shanthinagar area in Srikakulam to arrest Ravi Kumar, they could not find him there. The police suspect that Ravi Kumar is absconding.

This is not the first time that Ravi Kumar abused and threatened government officials. A few months ago, Ravi Kumar, with his henchmen, threatened Sarubujjili MPDO too.

The tahsildar said that Ravi Kumar’s behaviour was condemnable. He said that they would not support any political party but only follow the government rules. “Threatening officials on duty is not acceptable and we will be demanding the police to open rowdy sheet against Ravi Kumar,” Ramakrishna added.
