Visakhapatnam: Minister Nara Lokesh laid the foundation stone for the first 50MW AI-powered Edge Data Centre and an Open Cable Landing Station, positioning Vizag as India’s next global digital gateway on the East Coast and a low-latency AI compute hub for the region.
Rs 1,500 crore investment and over 1,000 jobs
Built by Sify Infinit Spaces Limited, a subsidiary of Nasdaq-listed Sify Technologies, the project will be developed on 3.6 acres allocated by the State Government with a planned investment of approximately Rs 1,500 crore in two phases.
The facility will engage over 1,000 people across construction and operations, with a strong emphasis on locally trained technical talent.
Opening new submarine cable routes
The Open CLS will anchor new submarine cable routes linking India with Southeast Asia—Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand—and onward to Australia, delivering resilient, multi-path connectivity and bringing AI-grade, low-latency processing closer to users and enterprises across India’s East and Northeast corridors.
The Edge Data Centre will interconnect via OPGW substation and be served by at least two diverse fibre networks, ensuring carrier-neutral redundancy and hyperscale-ready growth.
“Visakhapatnam is fast emerging as India’s global digital gateway on the eastern seaboard,” said Nara Lokesh, Minister for IT, Electronics & Communications, Government of Andhra Pradesh.
“Sify’s world-class infrastructure strengthens our position on the global technology map and catalyses innovation, jobs, and investment—this is just the first step, with approvals for a mega data centre already in place”
“We are proud to enable Visakhapatnam’s transformation into a key hub for global connectivity and digital infrastructure, and to advance AI-led innovation at scale,” said Raju Vegesna, Chairman, Sify.
Here are the highlights of the project:
- 50MW AI-Edge Data Centre, phased Rs 1,500 crore investment on 3.6 acres
- Open Cable Landing Station enabling new subsea routes to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Australia
- Carrier-neutral, OPGW substation interconnect, dual fibre paths for resilience and scale
- 1,000+ jobs across build-out and operations with a locally trained technical workforce
- Vizag positioned as India’s East Coast digital gateway and regional AI compute node
