Hyderabad’s T-CHIP team meets top Taiwan institutes for semiconductor R&D, skill development
Hyderabad: A delegation from the Technology–Chip Innovation Program (T-CHIP), led by founder Sundeep Kumar Makthala, has begun a three-day mission in Taiwan to explore semiconductor research collaborations and talent development opportunities.
The delegation held strategic meetings with the National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) and the Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute (TSRI), two leading institutions in global semiconductor innovation.
Focus on education and research at NYCU
At NYCU, discussions revolved around establishing joint research programs, co-designed curriculum, and student-faculty exchange initiatives.
These initiatives are intended to help Telangana reach its target of training 10,000 semiconductor professionals by 2030.
Highlighting the significance of the institution, the delegation noted that NYCU counts among its alumni several industry leaders, including Acer founder Stan Shih and TSMC founder Morris Chang, who also played an advisory role to the university.
Collaborative R&D with TSRI
At the Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute, talks centred on collaborative research and development, shared access to advanced facilities and sustained partnerships to accelerate semiconductor innovation.
Prof. V Balakista Reddy, Chairman of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE), joined the discussions virtually and expressed readiness to support the program.
“TSCHE is ready to partner with T-CHIP to strengthen semiconductor research and talent development in Telangana,” Prof. Reddy stated.
“These collaborations represent mutually beneficial opportunities, which will elevate Telangana’s research and innovation landscape while shaping India’s role within the global semiconductor ecosystem.”
International participation
The delegation also included Ken Khoo, CEO of Spring Semiconductor, and Maruthi Kurma, President of the WTITC Malaysia chapter, underscoring international support for T-CHIP’s mission.
Building global bridges
Reflecting on the visit, Sundeep Kumar Makthala said, “Semiconductors are at the heart of global innovation. By partnering with world-class institutions in Taiwan, T-CHIP is creating a bridge between Telangana’s talent and global expertise. These strategic collaborations will empower our students, drive research breakthroughs, and position Telangana and India at the forefront of semiconductor leadership.”
