Telangana attracts over Rs 50,000 crore in Life Sciences investments: Sridhar Babu
Hyderabad: In the past 18 months, Telangana has attracted over Rs 50,000 crores in investments, creating more than 60,000 new jobs in the Life Sciences sector, said IT minister Sridhar Babu.
The State projects Life Sciences exports of Rs 66,000 crore in FY 2024ā25. Hyderabad is recognised as the āVaccine Capital of the World,ā supplying one-third of global vaccine needs.
Made in Telangana stents and catheters from Indiaās largest medical devices park are now exported to 89 countries, including the US and Japan, said Sridhar Babu at the second ET Pharma Tech Innovation Conclave.
5 lakh jobs in rural areas
The government aims to create 5 lakh jobs in rural and semi-urban areas through the Life Sciences sector, supported by a Rs 1 lakh crore long-term investment strategy. Plans include establishing Pharma Villages in Vikarabad, Nalgonda and Medak districts after stakeholder consultations.
To build a skilled workforce, the government is preparing to establish a Life Sciences University with international standards. This university will offer short- and long-term programs in collaboration with global life sciences organisations.
Existing collaborations are also contributing to workforce development. This includes:
- Young India Skills University provides industry-aligned training through partnerships with companies like Dr Reddyās and Aurobindo.
- The Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (C4IR) trains science graduates to become life sciences specialists.
Telangana is also finalising a āTelangana Comprehensive Life Sciences Policyā to boost the Stateās global presence in the sector.
The governmentās focus extends beyond industry and research, prioritising public benefit through technology. Telangana has launched AI-based pilot screening programs for oral, breast and cervical cancers in three districts. Following positive results, these programs will be expanded to all government hospitals and medical colleges statewide.
