Hyderabad: To defend against the rising global cyber threats and protect the power infrastructure, Telangana State Power Generation Corporation (TG GENCO) announced a robust threat intelligence framework and is leveraging the Telangana Secure Private Area Network (T-SPAN) to protect the grid and ensure continuous power supply.

This is being done to ensure that there is stability in power supply and the cybersecurity threats can be easily identified and eliminated.

“As the backbone of Telangana’s industries, hospitals, agriculture and its world-class IT sector, TG GENCO views cyber resilience not merely as a technical requirement, but as a core pillar of public safety and national security,” explained Srinu Banoth, a prominent cybersecurity expert at TG GENCO.

Proactive defence via T-SPAN and threat intelligence

Traditional reactive security is no longer sufficient for modern utility grids.

TG GENCO’s new strategy focuses on threat intelligence—the practice of identifying potential attackers and their methodologies before an incident occurs.

Central to this initiative is T-SPAN, a controlled, secure network environment.

Unlike standard data sharing, T-SPAN allows TG GENCO, government bodies and academic institutions to exchange high-level threat indicators and early warning signs without compromising sensitive operational data. This collaborative ecosystem ensures that a threat detected at one node becomes a defence for the entire network.

Strategic partnership with TCPWave

To provide the technological foundation for this defence, TG GENCO has partnered with TCPWave, an international leader in cybersecurity and network technology. Utilising TCPWave’s advanced AI-driven analytics, TG GENCO is now equipped with:

- Real-time anomaly detection across all digital domains and power generation networks.

- Deep-dive forensic analysis of potential malware and intrusion attempts.

- Automated response systems to neutralise threats with millisecond precision.

“Cybersecurity is the silent guardian of power generation,” said Banoth, Cybersecurity Expert at TG GENCO. “Our mission is to ensure that while the state moves toward a digital future, the power that fuels that progress remains uninterrupted and secure from external interference.”

National cybersecurity summit on February 15 in Goa

As part of its commitment to knowledge leadership, TG GENCO representatives will join national leaders, cybersecurity pioneers, and academic scholars at a high-level summit on February 15 at the BITS Pilani KK Birla Goa Campus.

The summit will serve as a platform to discuss the future of critical infrastructure protection and the integration of threat intelligence into the national grid.
