Hyderabad:The government on Wednesday launched Telangana Data Exchange (TGDeX) at T-Hub in a bid to transform the state into a global leader in artificial intelligence.
State IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu declared that the government plans to train two lakh AI professionals over the next two years.
The Minister also revealed plans to establish a global-standard AI University in the state to support this mission. āAI is no longer just an emerging technology; it has become a transformative force with the power to impact lives and create unprecedented opportunities. Our government is fully committed to making Telangana the global capital of AI,ā said Sridhar Babu at the launch.
Indiaās First AI-Integrated Data Exchange
TGDeX is Indiaās first AI-integrated public data exchange platform. Developed with support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and strategic collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, TGDeX aims to make AI-driven innovation accessible to various stakeholders.
āTGDeX is a pioneering effort to democratize AI for the benefit of all,ā the Minister said. āIt serves as the technological foundation for a more inclusive and participatory digital future. It will enable government departments, startups, academia, researchers, and youth to collaborate on solving real-world problems.ā
The platform currently hosts over 480 datasets and is integrated with more than 3,000 AI startups.
AI for Public Services and Innovation
Sridhar Babu emphasized that TGDeX is designed to serve multiple sectors. āThis platform will provide vital data for agri-tech startups to support farmers. It will aid the health department in developing AI models that enhance patient care. It will be a valuable tool for skilling students and empowering innovation, turning Telangana into a global hub for cutting-edge solutions,ā he said.
He added, āTGDeX will also support the government in delivering efficient public services. In essence, this is a unified source of data that simplifies the discovery of AI-powered solutions to many societal challenges.ā
Expanding the AI Ecosystem
The Telangana government has outlined a multi-pronged strategy to expand AI integration across sectors and educational levels. āOur goal is to integrate over 2,000 datasets into TGDeX over the next five years. We are significantly prioritizing the integration of AI in governance,ā said the Minister.
He noted that 30 AI-driven government projects are currently underway and that plans are in place to establish a Centre of Excellence for Quantum Computing.
The state has also introduced an AI-based academic curriculum, aiming to build foundational knowledge among school students and nurture future talent in the sector.
