Teen drowns in Vizag's GVEH resorts swimming pool during birthday party

Visakhapatnam: A birthday party celebration turned tragic when a 19-year-old youth allegedly drowned in a swimming pool of GVEH Resorts near Kondakarla Ava (a freshwater lake) under Atchutapuram police station limits in Vizag district.
Though the incident took place on Friday night, it came to light on Saturday morning when the family members of the deceased youth approached the police citing doubts over the death.
The deceased was identified as G. Pawan Sai, a native of Gajuwaka area in Vizag city. He cleared his Class X examination.
According to the reports, Pawan Sai, who lost his parents in his childhood, had been staying at his uncle’s place at Gajuwaka.
On Friday, Pawan, along with his friends, went to take part in the birthday celebrations of their friend Sudhakar. The group of friends allegedly consumed beer during the birthday celebrations and later, they ventured into the swimming pool.
Around 9 pm on Friday, Pawan Sai was found unconscious in the swimming pool. The staff at the resort, along with the youngsters, pulled out Pawan Sai from the water and rushed him to a private hospital.
The doctors declared that he was brought dead. His friends took the body to Sai uncle’s house, told his kin that he was dead and left the place immediately.
Expressing doubts over the death of Pawan Sai, his uncle,G. Kanna, lodged a complaint with the Atchutapuram police requesting them to ascertain the reasons behind the death and take action against the guilty. He also alleged that there were some injuries on his body.
The police registered a case and shifted the body to the government hospital for autopsy.
Though swimming pools are supposed to be closed as per the Covid-19 norms, the management of the resorts violated the norm and opened the pool. There were no CCTV cameras at the resort. Investigation is on.
