Telanagana tops in reduced inequality, Decent work and economic growth: NITI Aayog

Hyderabad: In what is a moment of Pride for Telanagana, it has been ranked first in two categories of the SDG India Index 2019 by NITI Aayog ( National institution for Transforming India ), namely, Reduced inequality and Decent work and economic growth.

In the recently published Index, Telangana has been given a score of 82 in the Decent Work and Economic growth category and 94 in the reduced inequality category out of all the 28 states ranked in the Index.

The SDG Index has given scores to the states in the following categories - No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and well-being, Quality education, Gender equality, Clean water and sanitation, Affordable and clean energy, Decent work and economic growth, Industry; Innovation and Infrastructure, Reduced inequality, suistanable cities and communities, Suistanable consumption and production, Climate Action, Life on land and Peace and Justice strong institutions.

Telanagana has beaten Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka in the Decent work and economic growth category with a difference of 4 points as their score was 78 compared to Telangana's 82.

Coming to the reduced inequality category, Telangana has beaten Manipur (81) and Himachal Pradesh ( 78) with a score of 94. The difference between Manipur and Telangana was of 13.

Taking the overall score into consideration, Telangana stands third amongst all the states with a score of 67. It is just below Kerala and Himachal Pradesh. Telanagana shares it third position with fellow Telugu state, Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu.

Telanagana also stands third in the Affordable and clean energy category with a score of 93 and is only behind Sikkim and Goa with scores of 97 & 95.

On this occasion, TRS Working president and Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban development, Industry and commerce, information and technology, KT Rama Rao, took to Twitter to share the news. He wrote - " Fabulous news. Delighted to hear that Telanagana is doing well where it matters: Inclusive and suistanable economic growth as per UNDP."

Most importantly, Telanagana has bettered it's previous year overall score record which was 61 and has set a new record score of 67.

Combining all the states, India's previous year record of 57 has also been bettered with it's present score of 60.
