The Mulavaagu in Vemulawada constituency was overflowing and disrupted the construction work, which has been ongoing for the past four years. The collapse of the Rs 22 crore bridge under construction is raising doubts about the quality of the structure and building materials used, said a citizen. Local people are demanding the state government take stringent action against the contractor.
Out of the two bridges proposed on Mulavaagu in 2016, one bridge has been completed and the second one is still in its construction stage. The water force swept away iron rods along with the overflowing Mulavaagu.
The Met department already announced an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall across Telangana for Thursday and Friday. Further, they predicted a similar forecast in isolated places in Andhra Pradesh.
An upper air circulation above the Bay of Bengal near South AP is creating a low pressure, according to the IMD. Several districts in Telangana recorded 200 per cent or more rainfall during the past few days.
