Telangana HC asks CBFC to examine Ram Gopal Varma’s movie, delays release
By Newsmeter Network Published on 28 Nov 2019 2:45 PM GMTHyderabad: Controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma had knocked on Telangana High Court’s doors to get his film Kamma Rajyam lo Kadapa Reddlu released tomorrow as scheduled. However, the effort yielded no results. The Court, on the contrary, asked CBFC to scrutinize the film, consider all objections, and pass orders on them within one week.
The Division Bench comprising of Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice A Abhishek Reddy passed orders to this effect on Thursday while hearing RGV’s urgent petition.
The petitioner’s counsel informed the Court that they changed the film’s title to ‘Amma Rajyam lo Kadapa Biddalu’, to avoid any objections to the release of the movie. He sought a direction to the CBFC to grant film certificate so that the movie can be released tomorrow.
Assistant Solicitor General Rajeshwar Rao submitted that the censor board had not certified the film so far and it is in the process of examining. The counsel for another petitioner opposed granting of film certification to this movie. The latter submitted that the film portrays an entire community very negatively as can be seen in the song released online.
The Bench disposed of these cases, directing CBFC to examine the film in the light of objections raised. Then Bench asked the censor board to give recommendations within one week for making changes to the movie if any needed, and then grant certificate after compliance
