Interestingly, out of the 30, there isn't a single woman candidate. Till the last date of nomination, around 61 candidates had filed their nominations including four women candidates. One of the nominations was filed by BJP candidate Eatala Rajender's wife Jamuna who withdrew her nomination papers on October 13.
The 56-year-old Jamuna submitted her nomination papers sans the B-form to the returning officer, Karimnagar district, on October 4. The word was going around that Jamuna will contest the by-elections if her husband who is currently facing cases of land encroachment and corruption gets arrested just before the elections. Eatala has not been arrested and Jamuna is not going to contest the bypoll.
The other woman candidate who withdrew her candidature is Noor Jahan Begum, an independent candidate, a resident of Rasoolpura, Hyderabad. Earlier, she contested in April 2021 Nagarjuna Sagar by-election on the ticket of All India Majlis-E-Inquilab-E-Millat. She also withdrew her candidature on October 13.
Kukati Kumari, a resident of Khairatabad filed her nomination but was rejected by the election commission. Similarly, Bandela Yada Lakshmi another independent candidate from Warangal, her nomination also got rejected.
On Wednesday, 12 candidates withdrew their nomination papers. Earlier, election authorities had rejected the nomination of 19 candidates from the Huzurabad Assembly constituency.
AIMIM leader Taher Kamal Khundiri was one of 19 candidates whose nominations were rejected. Others whose nominations were rejected were associated with the Indian Praja Congress, Indian Praja Bandhu Party, Mana Telangana Rashtra Samithi Party, All India BC, OBC Party, New India Party, and Republic Party of India.
Nomination papers of 42 candidates including Gellu Srinivas Yadav (TRS), Eatala Rajender (BJP), Venkat Narsing Rao Balmoor (Congress) were found valid. On September 28, the Election Commission of India (ECI) had announced that the Huzurabad Assembly bypoll will be held on October 30. The counting of votes will be held on November 2.
The Huzurabad seat fell vacant after former TRS minister Eatala Rajender resigned on June 12. He was removed from the cabinet on the charges of land encroachment. Later, he joined the BJP.
