Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has asked Junior Doctors to call off their strike keeping in view the overall public health and the existing COVID pandemic in the state.

Urging them to resume duties immediately, he made it clear that the government had never discriminated against junior doctors and they are ready to meet their just demands.

On Wednesday, KCR held a review meeting at Pragati Bhavan here with Medical and Health officials on the COVID situation, vaccination programme and other issues.

On this occasion, the officials brought to the notice of the CM on the junior doctors' strike. "If junior doctors' demands are justified, the government has no objection to accept them. They can bring those demands to the government. But it is not right to abstain from duties without even understanding time and situation, and inconvenience to people. No one will support strike under the current emergency situation," he said.

Medical and Health officials told CM that junior doctors are getting a high stipend compared to other states. He inquired about the demands made by the junior doctors.

KCR also decided to increase the honorarium of senior residents by 15 percent. The CM said extend medical students engaged in the COVID duties will be paid the honorarium after their three years of the medical course.

He instructed that better medical facilities should be provided to junior doctors and their family members at the NIMS. The CM instructed the officials to take measures so that the ex-gratia amount being extended as per the guidelines should be handed over immediately as per the junior doctors' demand.
