Centre releases over Rs 70 crore to develop heritage sites, promote tourism in Telangana

Centre releases over Rs 70 crore to develop heritage sites, promote tourism in Telangana

Hyderabad: Union Ministry of Tourism allocated Rs 70.61 crore to Telangana government for the Development of Heritage Circuit of Qutub Shahi tomb complex, Paigah Tombs, Hayat Bakshi Mosque, and Raymond's Tomb.

Though the ministry had sanctioned Rs 96.90 crore in 2017-18, it did not disburse the full amount.

Funds were spent on landscaping, providing public amenities, horticulture, installation of CCTV cameras, construction of boundary walls, and parking. These funds were sanctioned under Swadesh Darshan Scheme.

Minister of State for Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel told parliament that the funds provided to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for the promotion of tourism. "The Ministry of Tourism promotes India as a holistic tourism destination under the 'Incredible India' brand-line, to promote various tourism destinations and products in the country including those in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana," he said.

Under the Prashad scheme, the ministry sanctioned Rs 36.73 crore for the development of Jogulamba Devi Temple in Alampur in 2018-19.

The Centre has also provided Rs 1 crore for the celebration of Bathukamma Festival and Kite Festival in the state from 2018 to 2020. The ministry released around Rs 45 crore in 2017-18 for the 3 rd International Kite Festival, 2018 and Golconda Masters Golf Championship at Hyderabad. The financial help was given to the states for Organizing Fair and Festivals and tourism-related events.

Funds for Andhra Pradesh

The Centre has provided Andhra Pradesh Rs 26.17 crore for the development of the Buddhist Circuit in Salihundam Thotlakonda, Bavikonda Bojjannakonda and Amravati Anupu in the state. The funds were provided under Buddhist Circuit of Swadesh Darshan Scheme in 2017-18.

The Centre also provided Rs 37.96 crore for the development of Srisailam Temple under Prashad Scheme in 2017-18.

The Centre has also provided Rs 3.54 crore for Sound and Light Show at Puttaparthi in 2017-18 and Rs 19.25 crore for the construction of Cruise-cum Coastal Cargo Terminal at Channel berth area in Outer Harbour of Visakhapatnam Port.
