COVID 19: GHMC single-day tally breaches 1000 mark; state reports 6206 cases, 29 deaths

By Newsmeter Network Published on 23 April 2021 5:22 AM GMTHyderabad: For the first time, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) areas' single-day COVID tally breached 1000 mark on Thursday.
The GHMC areas reported 1,005 new cases on Thursday. The state reported 6,206 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, taking the overall tally to 3,79,494. The state also crossed 50,000 active cases mark taking the tally to 52,726.
The state reported 29 new deaths, the highest single-day toll since the onset of the pandemic. The death has now touched 1,928. The fatality rate in the state is 0.50 percent which is less than the national average of 1.1 percent.
Medchal Malkajgiri reported 502 cases, Rangareddy reported 373 cases and Sangareddy 185 new cases.
Other districts of Telangana are also seeing a surge in cases. Nizamabad on Thursday reported 406 new cases, while Mahboobnagar reported 271, Jagtial 257 and Siddipet 200 cases.
Around 3,052 citizens recovered from the infection on Thursday taking the total recoveries to 3,24,840 in the state. The recovery rate, as per the government, now stands at 85.59 percent, which is approximately two percent higher than the national average of 83.9 percent. The state health department has removed the column of patients under home isolation from the medical bulletin.
The government tested 1,05,602 citizens on Thursday. So far 1,22,81,027 samples have been tested in the state. Samples tested per million population stand at 3,29,957. Reports of 5,531 samples are awaited. The state tested 49.9 percent primary contacts while 12.1 percent secondary contacts.
There are 20 government RT-PCR / CBNAAT / TRUENAT centers in the state. Around 60 private centers too are operational. On Thursday, 89,270 tests were conducted at government centers, while 16,332 tests were conducted at Private centers.
Also, 80.5 percent of patients were asymptomatic, while 19.5 percent are symptomatic.
Meanwhile, India recorded over 3 lakh cases for the second straight day on Friday, clocking 3,32,730 cases in the last 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry informed. The country's total infection count stands at 16,263,695 cases. As many as 2,263 people also died of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 186,920.
