COVID-19: Telangana reports highest single-day deaths at 56; logs 8,061 new cases

Telangana also reported 8,061 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. The overall tally has touched 4,19,966 in the state. The state has 72,133 active cases currently.
The state reported 56 deaths, the highest single-day toll, on Tuesday. With this, the overall death toll has reached 2,150. The fatality rate in the state is 0.51 percent which is less than the national average of 1.1 percent.
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) reported 1,508 new cases. Neighboring Rangareddy district reported 514 new cases. Medchal Malkajgiri reported 673 new cases.
Other districts of Telangana are also seeing a steep surge in cases. Sangareddy reported 373 new cases, while Mahaboobnagar reported 328 cases, Nalgonda reported 311 cases, and Nizamabad 291 cases.
Around 5,093 citizens recovered from the infection on Tuesday taking total recoveries to 3,45,683 in the state. The recovery rate, as per the government, now stands at 82.31 percent. The national average is 82.3 percent.
The government tested 82,270 citizens on Tuesday. The testing in the state is decreasing day by day. The government had tested 99,638 citizens on Monday. So far 1,27,48,582 samples have been tested in the state. The test positivity rate (TPR) in the state is 9.7 percent. Samples tested per million population stand at 3,42,309. Reports of 5,241 samples are awaited. The state tested 49.6 percent primary contacts while 12.5 percent secondary contacts.
There are only 20 Government RT-PCR / CBNAAT / TRUENAT centers in the state. Around 60 private centers too are operational. On Tuesday, 66,485 tests were conducted at government centers, while 15,785 tests were conducted at Private centers.
Also, 80.1 percent of patients were asymptomatic, while 19.9 percent are symptomatic.
Meanwhile, India's Covid-19 tally surged past 17.99 million with the world's biggest one-day spike of 360,960 cases. The death toll due to the viral disease crossed the 200,000 mark with 3,293 new fatalities, according to the latest data released by the Union ministry of health and family welfare on Wednesday.
The active cases in the country stand at 2,978,709, which accounts for 16.34% of the total confirmed cases. A total of 17,23,912 samples were tested for coronavirus disease across the country on Tuesday.
