COVID 19: Telangana's single-day tally breaches 6000 mark; 20 new deaths reported

The state reported 6,542 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday. The previous highest single-day spike was on April 20 when the state reported 5,926 COVID positive cases. The overall tally has touched 3,67,537 in the state.
Three major urban districts account for 2,000 cases. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area reported 898 new cases. Neighboring Rangareddy district reported 532 new cases. Medchal Malkajgiri reported 570 new cases.
Other districts of Telangana are also seeing a surge in cases. Nizamabad on Tuesday reported 427 new cases while Sanagareddy reported 320 cases, Nalgonda reported 285 cases, Mahaboobnagar reported 263 cases, Khammam reported 246 cases and Warangal Urban reported 244 cases.
The state reported twenty new deaths on Tuesday taking the overall toll to 1,876. The fatality rate in the state is 0.50 percent which is less than the national average of 1.2 percent.
Around 2,887 citizens recovered from the infection on Tuesday taking total recoveries to 3,19,537 in the state. The recovery rate, as per the government, now stands at 86.65 percent, which is approximately two percent higher than the national average of 85 percent.
The state has 46,488 active cases currently. Data of patients under home isolation was removed from the bulletin on Monday.
The government tested 1,30,105 citizens on Tuesday. So far 1,20,73,090 samples have been tested in the state. Samples tested per million population stand at 3,24,371. Reports of 6,242 samples are awaited. The state tested 49.9 percent primary contacts while 12.8 percent secondary contacts.
There are only 20 Government RT-PCR / CBNAAT / TRUENAT centers in the state. Around 60 private centers too are operational. On Tuesday, 1,12,079 tests were conducted at government centers, while 18,026 tests were conducted at Private centers.
Also, 80.1 percent of patients were asymptomatic, while 19.9 percent are symptomatic.
Meanwhile, for the first time, more than 2,000 COVID-19 deaths were registered in a single day in India on Tuesday. As many as 2,023 deaths and 2,95,041 cases were recorded in the country.
