Assistant Sub-Inspector from Bowenpally Radhakrishna and head constable from Debeerpura T Rajender died while undergoing treatment at KIMS hospital on Sunday.
During the past week, an Additional DG rank officer posted at the Telangana DGP's office, a Superintendent of Police rank officer in a district very close to Hyderabad, and another senior IPS officer posted in one of the commissionerates in the city have tested positive for the virus.
Covid positive cases are also being reported from the lower ranks. All of the positive cases had taken their vaccine shots at least a month ago.
However, the majority of them did not have any symptoms and are under home isolation. Testing positive after taking both jabs has set alarm bells ringing for the department.
More than 80 percent of the force has already been inoculated in Telangana. While more than half of the force has been affected by the virus during the first wave, a few of them who escaped last year, are getting infected now.
Few staff members with comorbidities have not taken the vaccine as per doctors' advice.
The two officers, who died on Sunday, also did not take the vaccine shot due to comorbidities. ASI Radhakrishna had been suffering from BP, Diabetes and heart-related ailments. He was tested positive on April 7 and got admitted on April 8, after he complained of discomfort. Head constable Jitender was also suffering from kidney-related ailments. He was undergoing treatment for close to a week.
