Crackdown on errant hospitals: TS revokes COVID-19 license of 5 more hospitals

Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Saturday revoked the COVID-19 treatment licence of five more hospitals. So far, 10 hospitals have been barred from treating COVID patients.

The five hospitals whose permission to treat COVID-19 patients were cancelled on 29 May include Image Hospital, Ameerpet; Ankura Hospital, LB Nagar; Sia life Hospital, Kondapur; Panchavati Hospital in Bhoothpur, Mahabubnagar; and Sai Siddhartha Hospital in Shapur Nagar, Sanga Reddy.

The director of public health (DPH) has received complaints of excess and irrelevant charges, mismanagement, and lack of proper attention against these five hospitals.

Earlier on Friday, Virinchi Hospitals in Banjara hills, VINN Hospital in Begumpet, TX Hospital in Kachiguda, Neelima Hospital in Sanath Nagar, and Max Health Hospital in Kukatpally had been accused of fleecing patients and their licences cancelled.

Also, a total of 115 complaints have been received against 79 hospitals. On Friday, the department had received 27 complaints against 15 hospitals. Around 79 hospitals were issued show cause notices.

"It is warned that any hospital found guilty of violating established protocols, norms, and guidelines, will be subject to suitable disciplinary action," said the director of public health.

Following complaints on excess billing, these hospitals were given 24 hours to respond to the show cause notice. In response, the hospitals submitted their explanation which the DPH found "not satisfactory".

The highest number of show cause notices was issued to Omni Hospital in Kukatpally followed by five against VINN Hospital in Begumpet, three against TX Hospital in Kachiguda. Two show-cause notices have been issued against 11 hospitals in the state.

There are several well-known hospitals that have also been sent show-cause notices. KIMS in Secunderabad as well as in Kondapur have been given one notice each. Similarly, Sunshine hospital in Gachibowli and Secunderabad have been given one notice each.
