Savdhaan Telangana: Despite pandemic, 764 rapes, 802 murders reported in 2020

The number of crimes registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and State Local Law (LLW) in Telangana have increased in 2020 despite the pandemic.
Annual crime data for the year 2020 was released on September 14 2021. Telangana police have registered 1,47,504 cases under IPC and SLL during this period. The number is very high compared to the previous two years.
According to the data, the number of murders cases registered was 802, deaths due to road accidents were 7226 and, hit and run cases were 1332.
Deaths due to medical negligence in Telangana stand at 16. However, the data does not reveal if the cases occurred in the government or private hospitals. Pertinently, these are cases were brought to the notice of the police. Sources said the number would be relatively high if the non-reported cases were taken into consideration.

Crime against Women: A total of 3,71,503 cases of crime against women were registered during 2020, showing a decline of 8.3% over 2019.
Crime against Children: A total of 1,28,531 cases of crime against children were registered during 2020, showing a decrease of 13.2% over 2019.
Crime Against Senior Citizens: 24,794 cases were registered for committing crimes against senior citizens (aged above 60 years), showing a decrease of 10.8% in registration over 2019
India remained under complete lockdown from March 25, 2020, and May 31, 2020, due to COVID-19 Pandemic (First Wave), during which time movement in public space was very limited. The cases registered under Crimes against Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, Theft, Burglary, Robbery, and Dacoity have therefore declined, whereas Covid related enforcement has resulted in an increase of cases registered under 'Disobedience to order duly promulgated by Public Servant (Sec. 188 IPC)', under 'Other IPC Crimes' and under 'Other State Local Acts..
Crime diaries: Hyderabad reported 92 rapes despite lockdown in 2020
Once priding for being a safe city, Hyderabad is witnessing a surge in different crimes.
National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) has revealed that the cases registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and State Local Law (LLW) in Hyderabad city have increased in 2020 compared to 2018 and 2019.
According to annual crime data 2020, Hyderabad police registered 18051 cases under IPC and SLL.
According to the data, murder cases registered were 71, deaths due to road accidents 330, hit and run cases 236, dowry deaths, 22, assault on women 119, and sexual harassment 44.
Cases of assault of women with an intention to outrage her modesty in public places stand at 17. Stalking cases registered were 267, Voyeurism, 13, and rape 92.
