Hyderabad: Telangana government on Monday released second tranche of Rs 500 crore under Dalit Bandhu Scheme.

Aimed to empower weaker sections of society, the scheme has been launched in the Huzurabad constituency on a pilot basis Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has earmarked Rs 2,000 crore for the pilot project.

On August 16, K. Chandrashekar Rao launched the flagship scheme from Salapalli village in Huzurabad Assembly constituency.

"The government will release another Rs 1,000 crore within a week. With this, the Rs. 2000 crore will be released in full," said a statement issued by the Chief Minister's office.

Under the scheme, Rs. 10 lakh each will be given to Schedule Caste beneficiaries to encourage entrepreneurship. Official figures reveal that there were 17 lakh SC families in the state.

Modeled on the Rythu Bandhu scheme, there will be 100 percent subsidy under Dalit Bandhu.

''Dalit Bandhu is not a programme, it is a movement. Everyone should take a firm decision in this regard. Telangana statehood agitation was started by one person. Later we put pressure on the country's political system and became successful. There will be some adverse forces. We will achieve success when we travel on the right path and believe in ourselves," KCR told a select group of SC villagers from Huzurabad on July 26.

It is pertinent to note that by-election is due in the Huzurabad constituency. The seat had fallen vacant following the resignation of former health minister Etela Rajender. He quit the TRS to join BJP.
