Hyderabad: Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has ordered a probe into the custodial death of Dalit woman in the Yadadri-Bhongir district.

KCR instructed DGP Mahender Reddy to immediately inquire into the death of Mariamma, and take stringent action against the police personnel responsible. He said if need be, remove the policemen from the service.

The CM said the death of Mariamma from Chintakaniki in Madhira Assembly segment under the Yadadri-Bhongir district is very painful.

The CM said the government would support the son and daughters of Mariamma. He instructed Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to ensure that Mariamma's son Uday Kiran is given a government job, a house, and Rs 15 Lakh ex gratia. He said Mariamma's two daughters should be given Rs 10 Lakh each.

The CM instructed the DGP to visit Chintakaniki to find out the facts about the death of the woman

"There is a need for society to change its attitude towards Dalits. Especially the attitude and behavior of the police towards Dalits should be friendly. It is unfortunate such an incident took place. The government will not keep quiet if anyone targets Dalits. There will be swift action in the matter. There should not be any delay in the inquiry. Stern action should be taken against erring cops. If need be, dismiss them from the service," the CM said.

CLP Leader Madhira MLA Bhatti Vikramarka, Congress MLAs D Sridhar Babu, Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, Jaggareddy, Congress SC Cell Chairman Pritam have met the CM at Pragathi Bhavan here on Friday and submitted a memorandum in this regard.

The CM expressed anguish over the behavior of the police. He suggested that local Minister Puvvada Ajaykumar, MP Nama Nageshwar Rao, district Collector should take CLP leader and local MLA Bhatti Vikramarka should visit the victim's family.

In this meeting, Home Minister Mehboob Ali, R&B Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy, State Planning Commission Vice Chairman B Vinod Kumar, CS Somesh Kumar, DGP Mahender Reddy, Principal Secretary (Finance) Ramakrishna Rao, and others participated.
