Nizamabad: Police have arrested two persons including a doctor for selling fake Remdesivir vials in Nizamabad.

They were selling each vial filled with saline water for Rs 35,000 to Rs 40,000.

A victim lodged a complaint with the Nizamabad one-town police against the accused on Thursday.

Station House Officer Anjaneyulu said K Ranjith Kumar, a native of Cheepur village of Armoor Mandal, had admitted his brother K Mahesh Babu to a private hospital at Nizamabad for Covid treatment.

When doctors at the hospital prescribed Remdesivir, he approached Dr. A Sai Krishnama Naidu from the same hospital, who directed him to P Satish Goud, a compounder at Armoor-based private nursing home.

Goud handed over Remdesivir vials to Ranjith for Rs 85,000. However, after inspecting the vials, the doctor at the private hospital said that the injection was fake and filled with saline water.

Ranjith immediately approached the police and registered a complaint. Police questioned the two accused and they confessed to their crime.

Police are now collecting details of their previous transactions.
