Hyderabad: The Telangana government appointed Dr Vakulabharanam Krishna Mohan Rao as the chairman of the Telangana Commission of Backward Classes. Dr Vakulabharanam Krishna Mohan Rao had previously served as a member of the BC Commission.

The Telangana government has also appointed C.H. Upendra, K. Kishore Goud and Subhapradha Patel Nooli as members of the commission. A division bench of the Telangana High Court comprising Chief Justice Hima Kohli and Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy on 4 August directed the state government to constitute the State Commission for Backward Classes within three weeks, as mandated under Section 243 of the Constitution.


Previous Chairman B.S. Ramulu and Vakulabharanam Krishna Mohan Rao, Eediga Anjaneya Goud and Juluru Gowri Shankar had remitted their membership nearly two years ago.

The Commission would examine requests for inclusion of any class of citizens as a Backward Class in the lists and hear complaints of over-inclusion or under-inclusion of any Backward Class members in such a list and advise the government as it deems appropriate.

Further, it would examine and make recommendations on any other matters relating to the Backward Classes that may be referred to it by the government from time to time. It would have all the powers of a civil court particularly in respect to summoning and enforcing the attendance of any person from any part of state and examining him or her.
