Hyderabad: Telangana state BJP president and MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar on Wednesday claimed that five farmers have committed suicide after Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao asked them not to cultivate paddy and instead look for alternative crops.

Addressing a well-attended public meeting at Koheda in Siddipet district he said KCR should clarify why he had issued such a statement which created fear among the farmers.

The BJP chief appealed to farmers not to take any extreme step and assured them that he will speak to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said he will ensure the purchase of even the last food grain produced by farmers of Telangana. He said CM KCR should apologize as five farmers have committed suicide after his statement.

Referring to by-elections in the Huzurabad assembly constituency, Sanjay said KCR may use gimmicks of deleting names of BJP sympathizers by misusing official machinery, but tactics of the TRS will not work as people are determined to support Etala Rajender. "BJP would unfurl a saffron flag in Huzurabad and there is no chance for any other flag", he said.

Alleging that the TRS government has failed on all fronts Sanjay asked KCR to issue a white paper on how many double bedroom houses were allotted to people of Huzurabad and how many Dalit families have been benefitted through the 'Dalit Bandhu Scheme'.

He said the TRS government has acquired 1600 acres from the farmers of six villages for the Totapalli project in Siddipet district. But no work has started and farmers are now demanding their land back. KCR should either return the lands or start work on the project, he said.
