Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court stayed all the proceedings on cases filed against Congress leaders including party national spokesperson Sravan Dasoju, ex-member of parliament Anjan Kumar Yadav and 12 other Congress leaders.

The Telangana police had booked a case against them for gathering at a community health centre in Khairatabad against the lockdown rules on 12 May. They were booked under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 169 (purchases or bids for that property, either in his own name or in the name of another) of the IPC and 51B (refuses to comply with any direction given by or on behalf of the Central Government or the State government) of the Disaster Management Act.

The leaders were demanding that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao immediately convert the 50-bed urban primary health centre (UPHC) in Khairtabad into a 100-bed COVID-19 hospital amid a surge in cases. According to Dasoju, the UPHC has all the facilities to treat COVID-19 patients.

As per the complaints filed by N. Narendra, police constable at Saifabad police station on 22 May, he along with home guard V. Ravinder Naik were deputed with Blue Colts in order to perform patrolling duties under the limits of Saifabad police station. "At about 9:30 am, some members gathered near the community health centre near Bada Ganesh Khairatabad with placards raising slogans against the government of Telangana. They violated the lockdown orders by formed a large gathering during the COVID-19 pandemic and protested till 10:30 pm," reads the FIR.

The FIR further read that the negligence of the leaders is likely to spread the COVID infection. "They also failed to comply with the orders during the pandemic that formed large gatherings by violating the lockdown orders issued by the government of Telangana," the FIR read.

Dasoju, who is also the Congress in-charge of Khairatabad Assembly constituency, visited Khairtabad UPHC and alleged apathy of the TRS government towards the hospital constructed during the Congress regime.

"It is highly disturbing and worrying that the chief minister, who is expected to make effective use of healthcare facilities available in the state during a health emergency, is indulging in publicity. K. Chandrashekar Rao had visited Warangal and announced that he will construct a hospital after demolishing Warangal Central Jail," said Dasoju on 22 May.
