The IMD said that heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Suryapet, Nalgonda, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning is very likely to occur in many districts of Telangana, it added.

Heavy rains to lash Telangana districts

Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday forecasted heavy rainfall in the districts of Telangana.

The IMD said that heavy rain is very likely to occur at isolated places in Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Suryapet, Nalgonda, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Mahabubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana. Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning is very likely to occur in many districts of Telangana, it added.

It also predicted a cloudy sky for Hyderabad and said light to moderate rain or thundershowers will occur in parts of the city. Some areas in the city will see intense spell, it said.

Meanwhile, the director of enforcement, vigilance, and disaster management, GHMC, said there is a possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall in the city and added that citizens may plan their travel accordingly.

The IMD inference on Sunday said an east-west shear zone runs roughly along Lat.17°N between 3.1 km and 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting southwards with height. "A north-south trough runs at 0.9 km above mean sea level from central Madhya Pradesh to south Tamil Nadu across Vidarbha, Telangana and Rayalaseema. The cyclonic circulation over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighbourhood now lies over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighbourhood at 1.5 km above mean sea level," it further added.

According to the Telangana State Development Planning Society, the average cumulative rainfall from 1 June to 18 July in the state was 391.9 mm against the normal 262.3 mm with a deviation of 49 per cent. While the GHMC average cumulative rainfall for the same period was 338.4 mm against the normal 205.4 mm with a deviation of 65 per cent.
