Hyderabad: The Union ministry of Home affairs (MHA) on Saturday announced 27 medals for Telangana police personnel on the eve of the 75th Independence Day.

Fourteen police personnel have been awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG), two the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service (PPMDS), and 11 the Police Medal for Meritorious Services (PMMS), the ministry said in a statement.

Swati Lakra, the additional director general of police, women safety, and Banda Srinivas Reddy, the deputy commissioner of police, Warangal, have been awarded the Police Medal for Distinguished Service.

V. Siva Kumar, DIG, Intelligence; Meghavath Venkateshwarlu, Madhapur DCP; Ramesh Dandugudu, additional superintendent of police, Intelligence; Jithender Reddy, Hanamkonda ACP; Chandra Shekar Akula, Madhapur ACP; Pitchaiah Muvva, DSP, Police Training College, Amberpet; Sampath Kumar Reddy, assistant commandant, 1st Battalion, TSSP Yusufguda; Anand Kumar, assistant sub-inspector of police; Chandra Shekhara Rao, ASI; Arif Ali Mohd, senior commando, Greyhound; and Anil Goud, head constable, Kachiguda have been awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Services.

Meanwhile, the Police Medal for Gallantry was awarded to P.K.S Ramesh, N. Lalya, M. Papa Rao, M. Bhaskara Rao, G. Prathap Singh, K. Venkanna, Malotu Ramulu, B. Mariya Das, K. Parusuram Naik, Abdul Azeem, K. Thirupathaiah, P. Satyanarayana, V. Ramesh and Gurram Krishnaprasad.

A total of 1,380 police personnel in the country have been awarded medals. The Home ministry is also awarding 628 Police Medal for Gallantry (PMG), one President's Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) to J&K police, and one PPMG to CRPF (posthumous). Around 398 personnel are being awarded for their gallant action in the Jammu and Kashmir region, 155 for their gallant action in Left wing extremism-affected areas, and 27 personnel for their gallant action in the north-east region. Among the personnel receiving the gallantry awards, 256 are from J&K police, 151 from CRPF, 23 from ITBP, 67 from Odisha police, 25 from Maharashtra, and 20 from Chhattisgarh.

Also, Sudhakar Renukunta, the district fire officer, and Komuraiah Challagurugula, leading fireman, have been awarded the Fire Service Medal for Gallantry from Telangana. B. Narayana and Vemula Jangaiah have been awarded the Correctional Service Medal for Meritorious Service from the state.
