Huzurabad by-poll: BJP, TRS activists clash; Kaushik Reddy stopped at Ganumukkala

Huzurabad: Tension has gripped the Huzurabad constituency after TRS leader Kaushik Reddy was stopped by BJP cadres in Ganumukkala village.

Kaushik Reddy is the TRS party's chief election agent. Under rules, he can go inside the polling station. But the BJP cadres alleged that he was influencing voters in the queue.

BJP leaders shouted `Go Back' slogans after spotting Kaushik Reddy. Police intervened and whisked Kaushik Reddy away.



Tension remained high in the village even after he was taken away. TRS and BJP activists also clashed prompting police to intervene and bring the situation under control. Later, police asked the voters, who cast their ballots, not to assemble at the polling booths and return to their homes.

In another incident, people prevented TRS leader and Gajwel market chairman Madasu Srinivas from entering the village. Villagers alleged that Srinivas was trying to influence voters in the area.

BJP candidate Eatala Rajender and his wife Jamuna cast their vote in Kamalapur.

By-elections are being held across 13 states. Three Lok Sabha and 29 assembly seats are going to the polls today. By-polls are also being held in Huzurabad in Telangana and Badvel in Andhra Pradesh.

A total of 2,37,022 voters are expected to cast their ballots. 306 polling stations have been set up in this regard. Special arrangements have been made for COVID patients. Wheelchairs have been kept outside the polling booths for the physically challenged.
