Huzurabad: As the Huzurabad by-election approaches, cash and other materials worth Rs. 3.3 crore has been seized in the constituency. The police along with the flying squad and Election Commission have seized a total of Rs. 3,30,18,397.
Till 26 October, the officials had seized total cash of Rs. 3,09,76,837. On 25 October, the police seized Rs. 23,39,060. Apart from cash, the police have also seized 1,068.76 liters of liquor worth Rs. 6,90,810 and 11.41 kg of ganja worth Rs. 69,750.
Precious metals such as gold and silver bars were also seized, including around 30 grams of undocumented gold and 14 kgs of undocumented silver bars ā all worth Rs. 10,60,000.
The officials also seized clothes whose bills and purpose for the use were not produced before them. It includes 66 sarees and 50 shirts worth Rs. 2,21,000.
On 28 September, the Election Commission of India (ECI) had announced that the Huzurabad Assembly by-poll will be held on 30 October. Since then, model codes of conduct have been implemented in the Karimnagar and Hanamkonda districts.
The counting of votes will be held on 2 November.
The Huzurabad seat fell vacant after former TRS minister Eatala Rajender resigned on 12 June after he was removed from the Cabinet for land encroachment. Later, he joined the BJP.
Mr. Rajender is seeking re-election on a BJP ticket. The ruling party, meanwhile, has nominated TRS Vidyarthi Vibhagam (TRSV) president Gellu Srinivas Yadav while Congress has filed Venkat Narsing Rao Balmoor, NSUI state president for the election.
