Jogulamba Gadwal: SI thrashes man, video goes viral; victim's friend approaches SHRC

A video of the sub-inspector kicking and assaulting a person has gone viral on social media. Sub-inspector is heard threatening the victim with dire consequences.

Complainant G Gopikrishna said that Lakshman was assaulted when he went to his friend's farm to dine.

"Lenin came to the spot and asked them why they were at the place. Sub Inspector and his team thrashed Lakshman. They kicked him in the face. The intensity of thrashing was such that windshield of the vehicle got broken," alleged the complainant.

Gadwal-Jogulamba district Superintendent of Police Rajan Ratan Kumar, however, said locals had complained that Lakshman consumed alcohol at a spot which caused inconvenience to them.

The SP said when a police team went to question Lakshman, he allegedly pushed the SI and a constable. He said Lakshman also damaged the police vehicle.

G Gopikrishna alleged that Lakshman has also been tortured in the Rajoli police station. A false case was also booked against Lakshman.

"Case was booked on Saturday morning and he was also taken into custody. He was not produced before the Judicial Magistrate. The SI was also heard abusing Lakshman in the video." the complainant alleged.

Gopikrishna said the brutal attack of the sub-inspector and his team was caught on camera. "It shows the brutal attack of a sub-inspector. He is also threatening him with dire consequences. Therefore commission is requested to direct the Superintendent of Police of Jogulamba Gadwal district to inquire into the issue and register a case against sub-inspector Lenin and team," he said in his complaint.
