Following several complaints against private hospitals fleecing covid patients, the Telangana Government has canceled the license of five hospitals located in the Greater Hyderabad limits.

Hyderabad: Following several complaints against private hospitals fleecing covid patients, the Telangana Government has canceled the license of five hospitals located in Greater Hyderabad limits.

The hospitals include Virinchi-located in Banjara hills, VINN Hospital-Begumpet, TX Hospital in Kachiguda, Neelima Hospital in Sanath Nagar, and Max Health Hospital in Kukatpally.

Following complaints on excess billing, these hospitals were given 24 hours to respond to the show-cause notice sent by the Director of Public Health. In response, the hospitals submitted their explanation 'which was satisfactory' and that followed action.



The DPH also said that no new Covid19 patient shall be admitted by the said hospitals, and no inconvenience should be caused to already admitted patients and they have to be treated as per ceilings fixed by the Government. "If it is found that the hospital is not following these orders, then the Government will be compelled to cancel the license issued to the hospital," added DPH.

Further, he added, "We have received 88 complaints against 64 private hospitals and all of these have been issued show-cause notices and action to be taken based on response. We have given them a stipulated time period and if a satisfactory response is not received, action will be initiated against them,".

The list includes, 39 complaints were received under the GHMC limits, 22 from Medchal ­Malkajgiri and 15 from Rangareddy. Show cause notices had been served to these hospitals with a deadline of 24 to 48 hours for submitting their explanation relating to the complaints.

The highest number of show cause notices was issued to Omni Hospital in Kukatpally followed by five against VINN Hospital in Begumpet, three against TX Hospital in Kachiguda. Two show-cause notices have been issued against 11 hospitals in the state.

There are several well-known hospitals that have also been sent show-cause notices. KIMS in Secunderabad as well as in Kondapur have been given one notice each. Similarly, Sunshine hospital in Gachibowli and Secunderabad have been given one notice each.
