A Maoist was killed in an exchange of fire with police personnel in the Kurnapalli-Bodhenalli area in Bhadradri Kothagudem on Sunday.

Bhadradri Kothagudem: A Maoist was killed in an exchange of fire with police personnel in the Kurnapalli-Bodhenalli area in Bhadradri Kothagudem on Sunday.

The police said that based on reliable information received, the Charla LOS and Battalion action team was conducting an operation near the Kurnapalli- Bodhenalli in view of the Maoist Martyr's week.

On Sunday morning while combing the area, the police saw 10 armed Maoists near Bodhenalli. An exchange of fire took place between the police and the Maoists. The police said that when they reached the area, they found one Maoist's body and recovered a weapon and two kit bags. The unidentified man looks to be around 23 years old, they said.

The police said that further search is ongoing.

The Maoists have been observing Martyrs' Week ever since Charu Majumdar, the founder of the Naxal movement in the country, died in police custody in West Bengal on 28 July 1972. The police have beefed up security in view of the Martyr's week.
