Hyderabad: Police have arrested a man who along with his wife allegedly stole brass plates from city temples to perform special puja so that they can have children.

A tantrik whom they met on the roadside had told the childless couple to steal brass plates for having children.

Police have arrested Siddesh, while his wife Sujatha is absconding. They were married for four years but had no children.

Police recovered one brass coated wall hanging of Laxmi Narasimha Swamy, broken pieces of the brass coated metal plate of Naga Devatha with Katta Maisamma

Hailing from Deendayal Nagar in Jubilee Hills, the couple was working as daily wagers. Some tantrik suggested that if they perform puja to the Naga Devatha, Katta Maisamma, and Narasimha Swamy by keeping their idols at home, they can be blessed with children.

As per the suggestion, they started stealing idols from temples located in isolated areas. On December 11, 2020, they gained entry into Sri Kovela Ranganayaka Swamy Temple in Nanal Nagar of Salarjung Colony and stole brass coated wall hanging of Laxmi Narasimha Swamy.

On January 18, 2021, they went to the Katta Maisamma Temple at Jiyaguda under Kulsumpura police limits and stole a brass coated metal plate of Naga Devatha with Katta Maisamma idol.

Special teams were on the lookout for the suspects. On a tip off, the crime team of Kulsumpura police station nabbed Siddesh and recovered the stolen material from him.
