Hyderabad: The state government on Tuesday increased the honorarium of elected representatives of rural local bodies by 30 percent.

The hike will benefit Sarpanches, Mandal, and Zilla Parishad Territorial Committee members as well as Mandal Parishad Presidents.

Sarpanches, Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) members, Mandal Parishad Presidents (MPPs), and Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) members will now receive revised salaries.

Panchayat Raj Secretary Sandeep Kumar Sultania issued orders to the effect on Tuesday. ZPTC members and MPPs will now get Rs 13,000 each per month, while MPTCs and Sarpanches will get Rs 6,500 each per month. Earlier, the honorarium of ZPTCs and MPPs was Rs 10,000 each. MPTCs and Sarpanches were getting Rs 5,000 monthly.

The orders came 24 hours after Nizamabad MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha raised the issue in Legislative Council. In her first speech, Kavitha expressed displeasure over the lack of funds and respect for elected representatives in villages.

Finance Minister T Harish Rao said the honorarium for the elected representatives of local bodies was enhanced as per the directions of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
