Fleecing COVID patients to appointing agents: Permission of 10 hospitals canceled in Khammam

By Newsmeter Network Published on 31 May 2021 5:54 AM GMTKhammam: Khammam district health authorities have canceled the permission granted to 10 private hospitals for violating rules pertaining to admission and treatment of COVID19 patients.
The action follows a surprise inspection by the district level task force team comprising officials of the health and other government departments here on Saturday night.
The erring hospitals include Vishwas multispeciality hospital, Cure Hospital, Prashanthi hospital, Marwell hospital, Janani Children's hospital, Indus hospital, Vijayalakshmi multispeciality hospital, Sri Balaji chest hospital, New Hope hospital, Sankalpa C Star hospital and Suraksha hospital.
District Medical and Health Officer Dr. B. Malathi said permission given to 10 private hospitals to treat COVID19 patients has been revoked. The violations included not displaying the price list of medical services and medicines, treating more Covid-19 patients than allowed, collecting more fees from the patients not only for the Remdesivir injections but also for tests like rapid antigen test and CT scan.
"Some of these hospitals have been treating Covid-19 patients without taking permission. These hospitals appointed agents in the villages and treated the patients. These hospitals collected Rs 3 lakh to Rs 4 lakh from each Covid 19 patient. High rates for every service, test, and medicines have been charged from them," she said in a statement.
The task force team received scores of complaints against these hospitals, following which action was taken.
Crackdown by Director of Public Health
Telangana government on Saturday revoked the COVID-19 treatment licence of five more hospitals. So far, 10 hospitals have been barred from treating COVID patients by the Director of Public Health.
The five hospitals whose permission to treat COVID-19 patients were canceled on May 29 include Image Hospital, Ameerpet; Ankura Hospital, LB Nagar; Sia life Hospital, Kondapur; Panchavati Hospital in Bhoothpur, Mahabubnagar; and Sai Siddhartha Hospital in Shapur Nagar, Sanga Reddy.
The Director of public health (DPH) had received complaints of excess and irrelevant charges, mismanagement, and lack of proper attention against these five hospitals.
Earlier on Friday, Virinchi Hospitals in Banjara hills, VINN Hospital in Begumpet, TX Hospital in Kachiguda, Neelima Hospital in Sanath Nagar and Max Health Hospital in Kukatpally had been accused of fleecing patients and their licences canceled.
Also, a total of 115 complaints have been received against 79 hospitals.
