Rural Telangana shows uptick in COVID cases

Telangana reported 638 new Covid19 cases on Monday taking the total caseload to 6,41,791. Three patients died on Monday taking the death toll to 3,787.

Rural Telangana shows uptick in COVID cases

Hyderabad: Alarm bells have started ringing after rural Telangana witnessed fresh spurt in COVID cases.

Warangal Urban reported 66 new cases, the highest in Telangana, on Monday, followed by Karimnagar 65 and Khammam 62 cases. Greater Hyderabad Municipal corporation area, which has the highest population, reported 59 cases, while Medchal Malkajgiri reported 32 cases and Rangareddy 19 cases. GHMC usually reports the highest number of cases.

"We have around 10 lakh population in the district and significantly the cases have dropped in the last few weeks. 65 or 76 cases in 10 lakh population are not alarming though we have to control the infection. Marriage season was there and people have started violating SOPs and that is why we are rise in case. We are conducting fever survey and identifying containment zones in the district," said Dr. Sujatha, District Medical and Health Officer, Karimnagar

The good news for the state is that no case was reported in Narayanpet district, while only one person was found positive in Jogulamba ­Gadwal.

Director of Public Health, Telangana said the rural districts have more micro containment zones than urban areas. Jagtial has six micro containment zones, followed by Bhadradri Kothagudem (5), Jayashankar Bhpalapally (5), Karimnagar (5), Mahabubabad (5), Nalgonda (3) and Yadadri Kothagudem (3).

Hyderabad only has two containment zones.

A total of 1,14,105 samples were tested and results of 1,100 are awaited. So far, the state has conducted testing of over 2.14 crore samples.
