Telangana govt declares black fungus as 'notifiable disease', launches portal for medicines
Telangana government on Thursday declared 'Mucormycosis,' commonly known as black fungus, as 'notifiable disease' under Epidemic Diseases Act 1897.

In a notification, the director of public health said all government and private health facilities shall follow guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Indian Council of Medical Research in screening, diagnosis, and management of Mucormycosis.
It has been made mandatory for all government and private health facilities to report all suspected and confirmed cases to the Health Department. Medical Superintendents of all government and private hospitals have been asked to ensure strict compliance. They have also been directed to send reports on a daily basis to idsp@telangana.gov.in. Earlier on Wednesday, the state government introduced an online application system for the allotment of antiĀfungal medicines ā Liposomal Amphotericin B, Posaconazole and Isavuconazole.
Application for the medicines should be sent in a prescribed proforma to 'entĀmcrm@telangana.gov.in'. "The applications will be scrutinized by a committee comprising Director of Medical Education, Superintendent of ENT Hospital, and HoD of Department of ENT, Gandhi Medical College," said the government.

The recommendation of the committee will be communicated to the approved applicant by eĀmail or through SMS indicating the name of the stockiest from whom the medicine can be purchased. The applicant has to submit details of the patient, hospital offering treatment, and treating doctor. Besides, the application contains the tables in which the history of the Mucormycosis patient has to be filled.
Plus a list of documents has also been mentioned in the application. They shall have to be attached with the application, and request for a drug in order of preference. The demand for the medicines has shot up after Black Fungus (Mucormycosis) cases surged. The online application system was introduced to judiciously utilize the available stock of the medicines.
