Telangana: Over 3.2L cases registered for violating facemask rule, Rs 18.38 Cr fine imposed
Telangana police have registered 3,20,379 cases for violating mask rule and collected Rs 18.38 crore from violators from June 20 to September 6.

On April 11, the government in its order made wearing face masks mandatory in all public places, workspaces, and means of transport. Not wearing a mask attracts a penalty of Rs 1,000 and prosecution under sections 51, 60 of Disaster Management Act, 2005, and section 188 of IPC.
Telangana government during the peak of the second wave of COVID19 had imposed lockdown in several phases. On June 19, the government in its order withdrew the lockdown. The state government, however, stressed the need for wearing masks and maintaining social distance in the post lockdown period.
Telangana police have registered 87,890 cases for violating the mask rule and imposed Rs 5.26 crore from violators till July 5. From July 6 to August 8, police registered 1,26,884 cases and imposed Rs 7.77 crore as a fine. From August 9 to September 6, police registered 1,05,605 cases and imposed Rs 5.35 crore as a fine. It wanted citizens to follow COVID appropriate behavior in order to keep the third wave at bay.
In its affidavit to Telangana high court, Director-General of Police M Mahendra Reddy said in view of Ganesh Puja, the department has taken several steps to ensure COVID19 appropriate behavior at public places.
"Use of facemasks is mandatory and any violations are being booked under appropriate sections of law. Provision for sanitizers is being made at places of worship. Managements are being asked to avoid crowding" said the DGP.
