Hyderabad: Telangana Rajya Sabha MP J Santhosh Kumar has been tested positive for COVID. The parliamentarian was last spotted with Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao during his Hospital visit on Wednesday.

The MP took to social media to disclose his infection, he said.

COVID infected Chief Minister KCR health condition is stable, informed his office. The state chief underwent a couple of medical test at the city's Yashoda hospital

Meanwhile, Telangana reported the highest-ever single day COVID-19 deaths on Wednesday with 23 people succumbing to the infection.

The state also reported 5,567 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, taking the overall tally to 3,73,468.

The state reported 23 new deaths, the highest single-day deaths since the starting of the pandemic started taking the overall toll to 1,899. The fatality rate in the state is 0.50 percent which is less than the national average of 1.2 percent.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area on Wednesday reported 989 new cases. Neighboring Rangareddy district reported 437 new cases. Medchal Malkajgiri reported 421 and Sangareddy 176 new cases.

Other districts of Telangana are also seeing a surge in cases. Nizamabad on Wednesday reported 367 new cases while Mahboobnagar reported 258 cases, Kamareddy reported 206 cases, and Jagtial 200 cases.

Around 2,251 citizens recovered from the infection on Wednesday taking the total recoveries to 3,21,788 in the state. The recovery rate, as per the government, now stands at 86.16 percent, which is approximately two percent higher than the national average of 84.5 percent.

The state has 49,781 active cases currently. The state health department has removed the column of patients under home isolation from the medical bulletin.
