Telangana reports 1,097 new COVID19 cases, six deaths on Sunday

The state reported six new deaths on April 4 taking the total death toll to 1,723. The fatality rate in the state is 0.55 per cent which is less than the national average of 1.3 per cent.
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area on Sunday reported 302 new cases. The neighbouring Rangareddy district reported 116 new cases. Medchal Malkajgiri reported 138 and Sangareddy 52 new cases.
Other districts of Telangana are also seeing a surge in cases. Nizamabad on Saturday reported 77 new cases while Nirmal reported 42 cases and Jagtiyal reported 32 cases.
Around 268 citizens recovered from the infection on Sunday taking total recoveries to 3,02,768 in the state. The recovery rate, as per the government, now stands at 96.65 per cent, which is approximately three per cent higher than the national average of 92.8 percent. The state has 8,746 active cases currently of which 4,458 are under home isolation.
The government tested 43,070 citizens on Sunday. So far 1,04,35,997 samples have been tested in the state. Samples tested per million population stand at 2,80,386. Reports of 1,965 samples are awaited. The state tested 48.6 per cent primary contacts while 12.5 per cent secondary contacts.
There are only 20 Government RT-PCR / CBNAAT / TRUENAT centres in the state. Around 60 private centres too are operational. On Sunday, 37,338 tests were conducted at Government centres.
Also, out of total infection, 79.8 per cent were asymptomatic while 20.2 per cent are symptomatic.
Meanwhile, India has recorded a massive surge of 103,558 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the highest daily increase recorded in the country since the beginning of the pandemic. The country's total tally reaches 1,25,89,067. Maharashtra remains the worst hit-state with over 30 lakh total infections logged since the beginning of the pandemic. On Sunday, the state saw the biggest-ever spike in cases with 57,074 fresh infections.
