Telangana reports 2,478 new COVID19 cases, Hyderabad adds 402 cases

For the first time, the state tested more than 1 lakh citizens.

Telangana reports 2,478 new COVID19 cases, Hyderabad adds 402 cases

Hyderabad: Telangana reported 2,478 new Covid cases on Thursday taking the overall tally to 3,21,182 in the state.

The state reported five new deaths on April 8 taking the total death toll to 1,746. The fatality rate in the state is 0.54 per cent which is less than the national average of 1.3 per cent.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area on Thursday reported 402 new cases. The neighbouring Rangareddy district reported 162 new cases. Medchal Malkajgiri reported 208 and Sangareddy 79 new cases.

Other districts of Telangana are also seeing a surge in cases. Nizamabad on Thursday reported 176 new cases while Nirmal reported 111 cases and Jagtial reported 105 cases.

Around 363 citizens recovered from the infection on Thursday taking total recoveries to 3,03,964 in the state. The recovery rate, as per the government, now stands at 94.63 per cent, which is approximately four per cent higher than the national average of 91.2 per cent. The state has 15,472 active cases currently of which 9,674 are under home isolation.

For the first time, the state tested more than 1 lakh citizens. The government tested 1,01,986 citizens on Thursday. So far 1,07,61,939 samples have been tested in the state. Samples tested per million population stand at 2,89,143. Reports of 3,907 samples are awaited. The state tested 48.5 per cent primary contacts while 12.6 per cent secondary contacts.

There are only 20 Government RT-PCR / CBNAAT / TRUENAT centres in the state. Around 60 private centres too are operational. On Thursday, 89,645 tests were conducted at Government centres.

Also, out of total infection, 80.2 per cent were asymptomatic while 19.8 per cent are symptomatic.

Meanwhile, India has recorded a massive surge of 131,893 Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. With this, India's tally now stands at 13,057,954. The five most affected states by total cases are Maharashtra (3,229,547), Kerala (1,144,594), Karnataka (1,033,560), Andhra Pradesh (913,274), and Tamil Nadu (911,110).
