Telangana reports 2,909 new COVID19 cases, Hyderabad adds 487 cases

The last time state reported more than 2900 cases were on August 29, 2020, when the state reported 2,924 positive cases.

Telangana reports 2,909 new COVID19 cases, Hyderabad adds 487 cases

Hyderabad: Telangana reported 2,909 new Covid cases on Friday taking the overall tally to 3,24,091 in the state. The last time state reported more than 2900 cases were on August 29, 2020, when the state reported 2,924 positive cases.

The state reported six new deaths on April 9 taking the total death toll to 1,752. The fatality rate in the state is 0.54 per cent which is less than the national average of 1.3 per cent.

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area on Friday reported 487 new cases. The neighbouring Rangareddy district reported 202 new cases. Medchal Malkajgiri reported 229 and Sangareddy 117 new cases.

Other districts of Telangana are also seeing a surge in cases. Nizamabad on Friday reported 202 new cases while Nirmal reported 131 cases and Jagtial reported 121 cases.

Around 584 citizens recovered from the infection on Friday taking total recoveries to 3,04,548 in the state. The recovery rate, as per the government, now stands at 93.96 per cent, which is approximately four per cent higher than the national average of 90.8 per cent. The state has 17,791 active cases currently of which 11,495 are under home isolation.

The government tested 1,11,726 citizens on Friday. So far 1,08,73,665 samples have been tested in the state. Samples tested per million population stand at 2,92,145. Reports of 4,533 samples are awaited. The state tested 49.5 per cent primary contacts while 12.9 per cent secondary contacts.

There are only 20 Government RT-PCR / CBNAAT / TRUENAT centres in the state. Around 60 private centres too are operational. On Friday, 99,478 tests were conducted at Government centres.

Also, out of total infection, 79.5 per cent were asymptomatic while 20.5 per cent are symptomatic.

Meanwhile, With 1,45,384 fresh coronavirus infections, India has recorded the highest-ever single-day surge since the start of the pandemic, taking the tally to 1,32,05,0926, the government data this morning showed. In the last 24 hours, 794 people died; 1,68,436 people have died so far.
