Hyderabad: The Telangana government on 20 April sanctioned Rs. 15 crore towards assistance to teachers and staff of recognized private schools for the month of April. This move is likely to benefit over 1.5 lakh teachers and supporting staff.

Earlier in the month, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, keeping in mind the financial strain taken by teachers owing to the pandemic, had announced financial assistance of Rs. 2,000 and 25 kgs of rice (Sanna Biyyam) per month from April until the schools re-open.

The state school education department had issued necessary guidelines to the district collectors regarding providing financial assistance and distributing rice within the scheduled period, from 21 to 25 of this month.

The order issued on 20 April said, "The government has sanctioned Rs. 15 crore under the 'subsidy on rice' scheme (human resource development). The commissioner of civil supplies, Hyderabad, to utilize an amount to meet the expenditure for distribution of 25 kgs of rice (Sanna Biyyam) to the recognized private school teachers and other staff for the month of April 2021."
