Hyderabad: More than 1.4 lakh people in the districts of Telangana will be administered COVID-19 vaccines in the next three days, state chief secretary Somesh Kumar announced on Friday. Telangana launched a special vaccination drive for high-risk groups on 28 May across the state.
Meanwhile, 32 centres have been set up in the GHMC area for the vaccination drive which will run for seven days and where around 30,000 people will be vaccinated daily.
On Friday, the chief secretary visited the Red Rose Function palace and inspected the vaccination centre there where high-risk and high-exposure people are being given the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Mr. Kumar said that the vaccination centres will open at 8 a.m every day. Officials will identify street vendors and people working in pesticide shops and other kirana shops and give them coupons so that they can be vaccinated, he added. He said no walk-ins will be allowed.
Later, the chief secretary visited the Press Club at Somajiguda where journalists are being vaccinated. Secretary of health and family welfare Rizvi, GHMC commissioner Lokesh Kumar, Hyderabad collector Sweta Mohanty, director of public health Srinivas Rao, and other officials were present.
On Friday, it was also reported that the Telangana State Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation is in talks with the manufacturers of Sputnik V to procure one crore doses of the vaccine.
