TRS wins Nagarjuna Sagar by-poll, beats Congress by over 18k votes
The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on 2 May won the Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly byelections by a margin of 18,872 votes.

TRS candidate Nomula Bhagatth polled around 89,804 votes and defeated veteran Congress leader K. Janareddy who secured 70,932 votes.
Meanwhile, BJP candidate Dr. P. Ravi only managed to secure 7,646 votes. A total of 42 contestants were fighting for the seat that fell vacant after former MLA Nomula Narsimhaiah died in December due to COVID-19 in Hyderabad on 1 December.
The 36-year-old Nomula Bhagatth is the son of former MLA Narsimhaiah and is an agriculturalist and advocate. His father Narsimhaiah had joined the TRS in 2014 when the agitation for a separate Telangana was at its peak. He lost the election from the Nagarjuna Sagar constituency but in 2018 he had trumped the sitting Congress stalwart K. Jana Reddy by over 7,000 votes.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had campaigned for the TRS candidate in Nagarjuna Sagar and had assured the tribals that the long-pending Podu land issue would be resolved soon. Meanwhile, MAUD minister K.T Rama Rao had said the by-poll was a contest between leaders who represent the past and those who represent the future. "TRS will win it with the blessings of people of Nagarjuna Sagar. The contest is between a leader who represents the past (Jana Reddy Garu) & a young man who represents the future hope; Nomula Bhagat Garu," he had tweeted.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has thanked people in Nagarjunasagar Legislative Assembly Constituency for blessing and electing TRS party candidate Sri Nomula Bharath with a vast majority. He said as per the TRS policy, the promises made during the electioneering would be fulfilled. He said very soon he would undertake a tour of the Nagarjunasagar Constituency along with Sri Bharath and solve all the problem of people.
The CM said the Lift Irrigation Schemes sanctioned in Devarakonda, Nagarjunasagar, Miryalguda, Huzurnagar and Kodad Constituencies would be completed on a fast track and would supply water to the people. He said the issues of the people compiled during the elections would also be solved. The CM also thanked people for expressing their immense faith in the development, welfare schemes of the government despite several vicious campaigns let lose by the vested interests.
The CM said the TRS would rededicate itself and work with doubled vigour and thanked the people once again. He also congratulated Bharath and suggested that the newly elected MLA should utilize this opportunity to serve the people and lay a strong foundation for a better political career. The CM also thanked the TRS leaders, cadre, and supporters for working for the victory of Bharath.
