TS per-capita power consumption for 2020-21 stands at 2,012 units: Power Minister

Hyderabad: Telangana energy minister Guntakandla Jagadish Reddy on Tuesday informed the state Assembly that the per-capita power consumption for 2020-21 in the state was 2,012 units.

Replying to a question raised by the members in the House during the question hour, Mr. Reddy said that the state had suffered severe power cuts when the TRS government assumed power on 2 June 2014. Within three months, the state had overcome power cuts to the domestic and industrial sector with the efforts of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.

Within a year, the state government had extended free power of nine hours to the agriculture sector and within three years, the government had extended 24X7 power supply, the minister said adding that no state was implementing 24X7 free power supply to the agriculture sector in the country.

Mr. Reddy said the state stands fifth in the country among all states in overall per capita consumption. He said after the formation of the Telangana state, 9,680 MW (TSGENCO: Thermal 2,210 MW, Hydel 360 MW, Central generating share 771 MW, other sectors 2,200 MW, private sector 570 MW; renewable energy sources: solar 3,415 MW, wind 128 MW, and other RE sources 26MW) of capacity was added.

Further, 7,962 MW of projects (TSGENCO 4,270 MW, NTPC 1,600 MW, RE sources 2,092 MW) were under various stages of construction, he added. The minister also said the total electrification was done in all the villages in the state.
