Hyderabad: Police officers on vehicle-checking duty brutally thrashed a driver in broad daylight on 23 March at Sadashivpet in Sangareddy district. Following the assault, the driver, identified as Wajid, was injured and became unconscious. The videos of the incident shot went viral on social media, raising concerns about police violence.

Reacting to the incident, Chandra Shekar Reddy, the superintendent of police, Sangareddy, said action has been initiated against the police officers who were involved in the incident. Two officers - constable Ramulu and home guard Balaraju – have been suspended and ASI Durgaiah and constable Prasad were attached to Sangareddy headquarters.

According to reports, Wajid was on his way to Singoor when he was stopped by the cops in Sadasivpet town. He stopped the vehicle for checking and started it again. However, the police ran behind his vehicle and intercepted it after a few meters.

They abused him, dragged him out of the vehicle and pinned him to the ground. Later, they rained blows and kicks on him and beat him up with lathis.

An eyewitness said Wajid was cleared after the check and was on his way but the police were not satisfied. They stopped him again and brutally beat him up. Other drivers rushed Wajid to a nearby hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment.
