Mulugu: Mulugu district police have arrested a Maoist militia member when he was allegedly trying to plant explosive material in the Pamunuru forest area of Venkatapuram Mandal in Mulugu district on Sunday.

The arrested militia member was identified as Madavi Boodu, 40, of Jella village in Venkatapuram Mandal.

Police recovered two tiffin-box bombs, two pressure-cooker bombs, four detonators, one walkie talkie, 40-meter cordex wire, two electric wires bundles and batteries.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Sangarmsingh G Patil said forces launched an operation after receiving a tip-off that militia members are planning to plant land mines in the Pamunuru forest area.

A joint squad of Venkatapuram police and the CRPF personnel nabbed Boodu after a brief chase. He said he tried to flee along with several other militia members, but could not break the cordon.

Police said he was acting on the instructions of Maoist leaders of the Vajedu Venkatapuram area committee to target the security forces.

Patil said he has involved in 28 cases including murder of Bheemeshwara Rao at Alubaka in October last year, and planting of IEDs, landmines and spikes in the forest areas frequented by the forces in Venkatapuram and Wajedu mandals.
